| Professional Land Surveyor | | | | JOB CODE: | 101305 | | | | PAY GRADE: | 2290 | | | | SALARY RANGE: | $56,718 - $78,511 | | | | LOCATION OF WORK | | Department of Public Works | | | | GENERAL DESCRIPTION | | Under general direction of an employee of a higher classification, performs professional land surveying work in research, surveying, platting, acquiring and permitting of public land for public works projects. Work involves responsibility for a major segment of field and office work within an organizational section. Incumbent performs work requiring the exercise of independent judgment on a routine basis and may function as the individual in responsible charge of surveying and right-of-way research, acquisition and permitting. The incumbent exercises general supervision over subordinate professionals and sub-professionals. Work is reviewed through periodic conferences and reports. Performs other work as requested. | | | | ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS | | Supervises field personnel in route, property and construction surveys.
Plans and supervises all work in Land and Right-of-Way Section of Engineering Division.
Supervises office personnel in preparing maps for property acquisitions.
Interprets property descriptions and maps in determining location of property lines; prepares property and right-of-way maps.
Reviews survey data; reviews and checks maps prepared by consultants; performs complex mathematical computations; receives, investigates and recommends action on requests for the rewrite of publicly owned rights-of-way and servitude.
Researches records in courthouse, land office and department files.
Writes legal descriptions, serves as an expert witness in court suits. | | | | | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES | | Knowledge of the principles and practices of land and topographic surveying.
Knowledge of the system of property recordation of East Baton Rouge Parish.
Knowledge of modern developments, current literature and sources of information regarding surveying.
Knowledge of applicable laws and regulatory codes relevant to the survey of land and subdivisions of land.
Skill in the use of computers, design/drafting software's, CADD (Computer Aided Design Drafting), and surveying practices.
Ability to accurately perform complex mathematical computations and to survey lands and set monuments and to make comprehensive recommendations concerning problems encountered.
Ability to accurately perform layouts and surveys for construction projects.
Ability to supervise subordinates and to plan, schedule, and review the work of a group of professional and sub-professional employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, to groups and to individuals.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, and the public contacted in the course of work.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division. | | | | | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS | | EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE | | Bachelor's degree in one of the recognized branches of engineering or a related field, including completion of six semester hours in land surveying, and four years post license experience in land surveying, including two years supervisory experience. | | | | SUBSTITUTIONS | | Any equivalent combination of education and experience. | | | | CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES | | Possession of a license to practice professional land surveying as issued by the Louisiana State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
