| Electrical & Instrument Supervisor | | | | JOB CODE: | 151360 | | | | PAY GRADE: | 2180 | | | | SALARY RANGE: | $33,162 - $45,904 | | | | LOCATION OF WORK | | Department of Public Works | | | | GENERAL DESCRIPTION | | Under the direct supervision of the Field Pump Maintenance Supervisor, performs responsible supervisory work in the maintenance, inspection and repair of electrical and instrumentation equipment at pumping and treatment facilities. Work involves responsibility for supervising plant electricians and instrument technicians engaged in performing skilled electrical tasks in inspecting, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment. The employee of this class has complete discretion as to technical methods of work within general policies established by an administrative superior. Work is reviewed through the efficient operation of equipment. An employee of this class may be on twenty-four hour call. Performs other work as requested. | | | | ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS | | Plans, organizes, assigns and supervises the work of a group of skilled electricians and instrument technicians engaged in inspecting, maintaining, installing and repairing a variety of electrical and instrumentation equipment at sewage pumping and treatment facilities.
Personally inspects the adequacy of maintenance work and the performance of major maintenance and repairs of various electrical and control equipment.
Supervises routine maintenance, repair, operation and overhaul work, and personally participates in the work as necessary.
Supervises and participates in the instruction of electricians and instrument technicians in their work and in the use of new methods of work and types of equipment.
Diagnoses trouble with equipment and assigns job to subordinates; adjusts work schedules as necessary.
Requisitions parts and supplies for repairs and operations as needed. | | | | | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES | | Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical controls involved in the operation of automatic pumping stations.
Knowledge of the electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles governing the functioning of control systems and instruments.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of the methods, tools and equipment used to test, maintain and repair control systems and instruments in accordance with prescribed standards.
Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for safe mechanical and electrical work.
Knowledge of the operation of sewage treatment plants.
Skill in the use of tools and precision instruments necessary to perform assigned tasks.
Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of a moderate sized group of skilled workers in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to adapt available tools and repair parts to specific repair problems.
Ability to diagnose operating trouble, and locate and correct trouble in mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division. | | | | | MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS | | EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE | | High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, and three years journeyman level experience in electrical and instrumentation work, and one year supervisory experience. | | | | SUBSTITUTIONS | | Any equivalent combination of education and experience. | | | | CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES | | Possession of a Class IV Wastewater Collection Certificate issued by the Louisiana State Department of Health.
