| Emergency Communications Shift Supervisor | | | | JOB CODE: | 123425 | | | | PAY GRADE: | 1231 | | | | SALARY RANGE: | $42,324 - $58,586 | | | | LOCATION OF WORK | | Emergency Medical Services | | | | GENERAL DESCRIPTION | | Under the direction of the Emergency Communications Chief of Operations, performs responsible supervision of the daily operation of the Emergency Communications Center including equipment and shift personnel. Incumbents are responsible for scheduling and ensuring adequate staffing levels, directly overseeing the training of emergency communications center personnel, and evaluating the work performance of all subordinates. Performs other work as requested. | | | | ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS | | Prepares shift schedules for employees for vacations, holidays, sick leave, etc.
Provides supervisory guidance and assistance to subordinate personnel by assigning duty areas, reviewing written reports, providing technical assistance, keeping personnel records, resolving employee complaints and grievances and recommending and administering discipline when required.
Conducts ongoing training assessment of shift personnel and makes recommendations for training to the Emergency Communications Chief of Operations.
Provides interface with other departments while on duty.
Monitors supplies and maintains a sufficient supply of items on hand for daily operations.
Notifies repair crews or Emergency Communications Chief of Operations of any malfunctioning equipment; supervises the general care and use of equipment; testing as necessary to assure that it is in proper operating condition.
Assists in the maintenance of all records, reports, maps and documents necessary to the operation of the Emergency Communications Center.
Provides input for budgetary preparation such as recommendations for new equipment and programs.
Completes any special projects assigned by the Emergency Communications Chief of Operations such as researching new equipment or procedures, reviewing division operations and making recommendations for changes or improvements, or any related assignments.
| | | | | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES | | Knowledge of telephone systems, radio equipment and dispatch techniques used in public safety communications.
Knowledge of first aid treatment and techniques.
Skill in the operation of the Computer Aided Dispatch and related equipment in the Emergency Communications Center.
Ability to plan, schedule and supervise employees in the Emergency Communications Center.
Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and in a courteous manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinate employees.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division.
