| GENERAL DESCRIPTION |
| Under the general supervision of a professional superior, performs professional work in instructing preschool aged children in a day care center. Work involves teaching preschool aged children basic pre-elementary subjects. Work includes planning, organizing and supervising classroom activities for the social, emotional, intellectual and psychological growth of preschool aged children. Instruction is individual or in groups and is adapted to needs, interests, and abilities of the child. Work is reviewed through conferences and review of lesson plans. Performs other work as requested.
Note: Most employees within this classification are paid an hourly rate and work ten (10) months or less a year. |

| ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS |
| Plans daily activities of the children by writing lesson plans.
Observes and records the progress of the children by completing all necessary forms and records.
Greets visitors; encourages participation of parents in classroom activities; contacts parents concerning children's problems.
Instructs and supervises children in play, loading into proper bus, and classroom activities.
Requests and obtains all necessary supplies and equipment.
Supervises and directs Teacher Aides in implementing daily activities and lesson plans. |

| Knowledge and understanding of the developmental levels of preschool aged children.
Knowledge in the motivational techniques used in total child development.
Ability to teach, supervise and relate to preschool aged children, both individually and in groups.
Ability to establish control and provide proper discipline when necessary.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to instruct and teach others the skills and practices of childhood learning.
Ability to carry out supplementary responsibilities related to the children's program.
Ability to apply good work habits such as punctuality, reliability, preciseness, and dependability in order to effectively complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of the department and division. |

| Bachelor's degree in early elementary education or a closely related field. |
