| Computer Room Supervisor | | | | JOB CODE: | 102130 | | | | PAY GRADE: | 1180 | | | | SALARY RANGE: | $33,162 - $45,904 | | | | LOCATION OF WORK | | Information Services Department | | | | GENERAL DESCRIPTION | | Under the direction of the Information Services Operations Supervisor, performs technical and supervisory work maintaining optimum efficiency of the mainframe computer room operations. Employees serve as "troubleshooter" for malfunctions in the computer room as well as CRT terminals at various locations. Employees are also on twenty-four hour call and required to work shift work. Performs other work as requested. | | | | ESSENTIAL WORK TASKS | | Monitors the operation of the computer equipment to ensure proper functioning, and prevent damage caused by malfunctioning equipment or improper operation techniques.
Maintains a log on all equipment breakdowns, and reports the nature of the problems to service representatives.
Replaces inoperable CRT terminals temporarily until they can be serviced by authorized servicemen; reprogram the computer which governs terminal input and output so that the mainframe computer will be aware of the change in terminals.
Confers with manufacturers' representatives concerning maintenance service of computer equipment.
Instructs operators on the operation of new equipment.
Assists the Information Services Operations Supervisor in scheduling work for night and weekend crews.
Order all supplies. | | | | | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES | | Knowledge of the operations and use of mainframe computers and peripheral equipment, and probable cause of malfunctions.
Knowledge of computer programming and systems development.
Ability to instruct personnel in the proper use of computer and keypunch equipment.
Ability to perform complex operations on mainframe computers and peripheral equipment and to make adjustments to machines.
Ability to prepare written work schedules and reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, superiors, and subordinates.
